Heintz & Kop

The Pale Blue Dot

The gears turn and you zoom out. The light changes and you zoom out. A scale model is assembled and you zoom out. Further and further, from the table in the hall, to the theatre where you sit, to the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. Further still, until confusion gives way to wonder: because that pale blue dot… that is home.

The Pale Blue Dot is a space journey guided by a live-operated, theatrical planetarium. With ingenious mechanics and a play of light and shadow, Heintz & Kop create order in the chaos and deliver an existential knock-out. In this way, looking upward becomes an invitation to stillness, contemplation and learning to look again.

About Heintz & Kop

The duo Heintz & Kop consists of Tom Heintz (1992) and Jolein Kop (1995). They work as lighting designers, scenographers and theatre makers. In their work, light functions as an animated and independent performer. By playing with perspective and focus, they search for a precise balance that directs and shifts attention.

They previously appeared at Festival Cement with the performance Pascalerf 48 and Lift Off, a preliminary study for The Pale Blue Dot.
